Lookin’ for Love…

As the song goes, “lookin’ for love in all the right places” is sometimes hard to do. Exactly where is the right place to look for love? How about the old pioneer city cemetery in Abbeville, Alabama! Even Huggin’ Molly is known to wander around and look for love (or at least someone to hug). There are many, many love stories lad to rest in the old burial grounds and the cemetery committee has decided to bring some of them to light in a new form for February 4th, the month for love.
There are all kinds of love; i.e., love of country, love of family, love of life, and many, many more wonderful love stories. A great number of these can be told from the graves of the old city cemetery and they will be brought to life on February 4th, 2012 at 6:00 p.m. at the Great Southern Conference Center in downtown Abbeville through a dinner theater presentation. This will be a great way to help with the fund raising for restoration of the old cemetery, emjoy a delightful supper and be entertained with the “Spirits of Love”. The stories will be presented by a “telling presentation” in theatre fashion from the specters of the past as portrayed by our area actors.
The cemetery committee would also like for you to visit the old cemetery (during daylight hours as there are no earthly lights in the graveyard) as it is really beginning to show itself off. Phase II of the restoration of the old burial grounds is complete and plans for the commencement of phase III should begin in 2012. Everyone is invited to come see how successful the phase I and phase II renovations have been in getting the old burial grounds back to striking good looks and a deserved tribute to its dwellers.
Phase III will be kicked off with its continued fund raising efforts with the introduction of the “Spirits of Love” dinner theater production. The Pioneer Cemetery has been designated as a state historical site. Phase III will be the continued efforts to preserve and restore the cemetery. Donations are gladly accepted for the project. Checks can be made out to “Abbeville Cemetery Committee” and mailed to P O Box 427, Abbeville, AL 36310.
