Library

Welcome to the Abbeville Memorial Library. The library offers numerous services for our patrons. We hope that you will stop by, become a member and browse our bookshelves.

The Alliegene Edwards Farmer Meeting Room is available for private parties and events. The room costs $25 per four hour rental period. A refundable damage deposit, in the amount of $50, is required as well as a $5 refundable deposit on a room key if one is issued.

The library has a wonderful group called “Friends of the Library”.  This group supports the library through fund raisers and enhancing community awareness.

The library is currently equipped with 10 public access computers which all have word processing and Internet capabilities. Patrons with laptops can also access the Internet at the library through the library’s wireless network. Children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian in order to access the library’s computers.

Library cards are available to any person who lives, works, or attends school in Henry County. Children under the age of 18 must have a parent or guardian present to sign for them to receive a library card.

Books, audios, and books on CD may be borrowed for a period of two weeks. Videos and DVDs may be borrowed for a period of one week without renewal. Renewals for books may be made over the telephone or by visiting the library. Books that have a waiting list may not be renewed. Fines for overdue books accrue at a rate of 10 cents per day, per item with the exception of videos or DVDs which have a late fee of $1 per day.

The library has special programs throughout the year, including the Summer Reading Program. All special events will be advertised in the local newspaper and at the library. If you wish to honor a loved one or special friend, the library is the perfect place to do so. A book donated in memory of a friend or relative may be arranged by calling or visiting the library. We will acknowledge donations and bequests with a donor card, if requested. Gifts and donations are tax deductible. You may also honor a person with a plaque or faux book. Please ask at the library for more details.

The library also houses the William W. Nordan Local History Room. The Nordan History Room is Henry County’s most comprehensive collection of local history and genealogical information.
